Awe, I feel your pain Randy. I will pray that God brings you comfort.
I lost my twelve year old best friend just over six months ago. Her name was Leila and it was devastating to lose her. But, I take comfort that she is at Home with God now and will never know pain and suffering. I know that one day I will see her again.
I still talk to her and call her name sometimes. And I often think of her, especially in the mornings just before I wake and I can almost feel her pressed against me again. I think she visits me.
God bless you Randy. Grieve your friend and take the time you need, but remember to lean on God and look to him for comfort.
